At our last meeting on Children's Rights Project, after having analyzed the reflective questions on Unicef Articles: 22, 24 and 27, we decided that we are going to accomplish Assignment 1 of the Challenge 1 and show the world that refugees have the same right to a safe and happy home as the other legal citizens of a country on the basis of the international standards. According to our Challenge requirements we have to give feedback to two diferent schools on their contribution to Phase 2 of the Project and to get feedback from other two schools. Here is the detailed instruction of the Assignment 1: Research and Report. You are going to do a research on the current situation of the refugees in our country, interview a few people and write a report on three stories of:
I assume that the issue of incoming refugees in our country seem to be not as critical as in other European countries, since our country is a poor one and moreover there is a great number of abandoned children who are waiting to integrate into a family and to have that high standard of living they are longing for. Nevertheless, we should be aware of the hardships the refugees face when fleeing their countries for various dreadful reasons. The national data reveals that within a year there were four times as many refugees seeking asylum in Moldova as in the previous years. The majority of them are originally from Syria, Ucraine, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The refugees can find temporary accommodation in Moldova with the support of the National and International social actors, such as:

Tip: you may write answers to the questions in the Assignment 1 Report and Assignment 1 extended in a more creative way, for example by using one of the digital tools described on Teacher's Guide Page: Voki, Blabberize - talking character tools (you may use the face of a child to talk); Utellstory- a short photo presentation or create a short Powtoon animation by mentioning the key points of your answers.

Refugees are the persons who have been displaced from their home countries due to unforeseeable circumstances like war or cultural persecution. And in 1951, the UN refugee convention was created. Its aim was to help Europe cope with millions of stateless people following World War 2. According to the convention, the host country is not allowed to send the refugees back to their home state if their life or freedom would be threatened. As mentioned before, these situations are often the result of war or genocide, however, unrelated events as natural disasters or generalized violence do not qualify victims for refugee.

Thank you fur such a detailed analysis of the video, Catalina. I am sure that now you are able to defend refugees' rights and to promote them across our country. It is true that people are equal and should have the same rights irrespective of the surrounding circumstances: i.e. to a safe home and protection. Judging by the conclusion you drew about Moldova's priority I assume that we should organize public activities in order to raise awareness among our local authorities about the additional and necessary assisstance, commodities and job opportunities that the refugees should have access to as to feel protected and secure in the new living environment. I hope we will work out a petition on refugees rights in our country to have an outreach to our Government and other local authorities in order to make our voice heard.

Moldova acceded to the 1951 Refugee Convention in 2002. The first national law on refugees became effective in 2003. In 2005, national legislation, in addition to refugee status, introduced a complementary form of protection called humanitarian protection . In Republic of Moldova, Asylum Act came into effect in 2009. The law was elaborated with the participation of UNHCR and representatives of civil companies, which is considered a step in the progressive development of national asylum system. Therefore, there are a lot of facilities and protection for ones who seek help ,as well as humanitarian assistance , welfare services, and the right to primary education ,to access the courts, to work legally and to obtain identity cards. Refugees can find temporary accommodation in Moldova with the support of the National and International social actors, such as: UNHCR - Republic of Moldova,Migrants Accommodation Center - Iom,

Thank you, Veronica for giving important facts and dates about Moldova and its effort to advocate the refugees' rights in our country. We can definitely say that people who seek asylum and refuge here can rely on our support. Together with international partners we can ensure the refugees' basic rights as well as facilitate their social integration by offering them various opportunities of becoming self-reliant in the Republic of Moldova.
