No one chooses to be a refugee. Refugees seek safety in another country when they experience a threat of persecution and because their own country is unwilling or unable to protect their fundamental rights, most often because of the war that broke out. In the face of serious violations of their human rights, they have no choice but to leave their homes, their families and communities in order to survive. The ones who suffer the most from the ordeal of being a refuge are children. The ones who leave their home countries endure the painful thought of not being able to come back to their distant family, friends and not seeing their homeland again. Besides, their families were forced to leave their homes with only the clothes on their back, to run for their lives wondering what to do next, how to survive in this cruel world. In such cases, the children can't enjoy the happiest period of their life - childhood, because they are not in a safe environment that provides basic care, fulfill their needs, give them love, a safe home, peaceful life and a lot of opportunities. Children feel happy in their new homes because they were given the chance to start the life all over again in a new country , even if at first they feel like strangers. When children are placed in refugee camps they face many problems concerning humanitarian aid, limited possibilities such as the idea of working and supporting themselves. Another problem is amount of food that is given to refugees every 2 weeks. In many cases this quantity isn't enough, so they eat only once a day. As for children's entertainment , they have to make their own toys. One thing that the camp didn't ensure was creating a healthy environment where children could grow and reach their potential. Republic of Moldova acceded to the ONU convention in 2002, and has taken the responsibility to provide the refugees all kind of facilitation , especially the aim to deal with refugees experiences of war, displacement or any other causes.

In my opinion, children feel safer in their new homes, but not happier, because it was not their own decision to move to a new country, it was not their decision to start their life all over again in a place where even the language and the alphabet might be different. And even if they are helped, children and their families deal with a lot of problems such as: the low amount of food that they recieve, and for the parents: not having the opportunity to work in order to mantain their families.

Well-done, Catalina and Veronica! It is good that you grasped this important issue and now I think you are able to address the problems the refugees face to the local authorities who are responsible for ensuring their basic rights or other competent bodies and international aid compnaies and try to sensibly work out effective solutions to deal with the limited posibilities, facilities and insufficient aid that the refugees get. I assume that volunteering would work well in helping this vulnerbale layer of the society and their children to easily integrate into our community and feel safe and secure in their new environment. Together we can make a difference and contribute to the advocacy of human and children't ritghs anywhere regardless of the race, religion and status of a person.
